  • Land survey and holistic context assessment to understand your goals, values, and property aspirations. Using GIS mapping and ecological design principles, we create layouts that maximize productivity, resilience, and landscape harmony.

  • We help you source local and genetically diverse seed, balancing adaptation to local soil type and climate with the introduction of supreme genetics from other places. This to prepare for the unforeseen and hedge your bets against climate change.

  • On-site micro nursery design and construction with planning, building, seeding, transplanting, and grafting services. Includes site visits, manuals, videos, and guidelines. Advanced air-pruning techniques promote optimal taproot development and tree health.

  • Complete land preparation and plan execution including deep ripping for soil compaction, contouring for water management, targeted soil amendments, mechanical or hand tree planting, wildlife protection fencing, and drought-resilient irrigation setup.

  • Comprehensive maintenance services featuring formational pruning using advanced techniques like Oeschbergschnitt, tree row light management, weeding and mulching, and integrated livestock grazing for grass management and nutrient cycling.

  • Guidance on workflow optimization, machinery selection, and storage infrastructure planning to ensure efficient harvesting and crop quality preservation.

  • Regional network development through cooperative processing facilities, shared equipment models, aggregated market access, local seed banks for genetic diversity, and micronursery networks supporting regional demand.

Our unique From Seed to Fruit agroforestry design & consultancy approach helps farmers and landowners develop productive- and resilient agro-ecological landscapes at low cost, using state-of-the-art regenerative practices.

Education for the reGeneration

At Nuts & Berries, our on-site workshops are designed to inspire other farmers and enthusiasts that are eager to learn about agroforestry. With an adaptive format, we ensure our courses fit into your project context while providing a rich, immersive experience and getting practical work done.

On-Site Education & Workshops

  • Each session blends informative presentations with hands-on outdoor activities, fostering active participation and reflection. We prioritize interactive learning, combining lectures, practical exercises, and ample time for Q&A. Generous breaks create opportunities for networking and meaningful discussions, essential for building strong community connections.

Our workshops follow the "hands, heart, and head" education model, activating different brain regions and encouraging holistic learning. By the end of the day, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the topics, seeing the big picture and sparking curiosity for further exploration.

Book us for a course
  • Learn to identify, collect, and select the best genetics from your local ecosystem to be used in your agroforestry or reforestation project. This hands-on workshop covers ethical foraging practices, seed identification techniques, proper harvesting timing and storage methods. Explore how to build a diverse seed collection that reflects regional biodiversity, understand the importance of local genetic adaptation, and discover how to regenerate your environment through native- and non-native plant populations.

  • Designed for those looking to establish their own nurseries, this workshop covers the essentials of creating and managing micro tree nurseries. Topics include site selection, seed sourcing, nursery layout, and propagation techniques. Participants will gain hands-on experience in seed sowing, transplanting, and grafting, with a focus on using local genetics to ensure resilience and adaptability. The program also emphasizes cost-effective, sustainable practices that enhance self-reliance and regional biodiversity.

  • Learn essential grafting techniques to join different plant varieties for improved growth and productivity. This hands-on session covers rootstock- and scion selection and timing/application of the techniques in different scenarios. Participants will practice whip-and-tongue, cleft, and bark grafting.

  • This on-site workshop covers timing of the planting, soil preparation, material-and tools selection and tree planting.

  • Learn to prune your newly planted fruit, nut and timber trees in a way that maximizes yield & fruit quality, longevity of the system, while minimizing labor costs in the long run. Our team of professionals is trained in the Oeschbergschnitt, a method developed in Switzerland for standard sized fruit trees suitable for agroforestry systems.

For the non-target support species we offer training in syntropic pruning (timing, tool selection, safety),

  • Our Silvopasture Workshop is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key principles and practical applications of this regenerative farming practice. Through a combination of presentations, hands-on activities, and farm tours, attendees will explore the intricate relationships between trees, pasture, and livestock, and how these elements work together to build resilient, productive ecosystems.

  • Focus on building theoretical foundations and gaining practical experience in designing and establishing Syntropic Agroforestry systems. The workshop program can be tailored to specific needs of the client and complemented with design and implementation of site. We will cover the philosophy and core concepts of Syntropic Agroforestry such as species succession, stratification, plant consortia and disturbance.

On-site workshops

Online Tree Nursery Course (coming soon)

The first series of the online course will focus on setting up and operating micro-nurseries to grow thousands of trees at low cost. Topics that will be covered: Seed selection & stratification, various propagation techniques (seed & cuttings), automated irrigation setup, maintenance, formational pruning of seedlings and grafting. The course is a mix between videos and text, complemented with a species table, including all the specific propagation details for a whole range species.

When & Why Agroforestry?

When integrated with water retention landscapes and holistic grazing, it enables a process-based approach to farming — replacing input-heavy, linear models with living systems that maximize year-round photosynthesis, nutrient cycling, and climate resilience.

Agroforestry can be applied in many forms and contexts, each having their unique benefits:

  • Riparian Buffers: Protect waterways, reduce erosion, and improve water quality.

  • Shelterbelts and Windbreaks: Shield crops and livestock from harsh weather, while creating habitat corridors for wildlife.

  • Hedgerows: Define boundaries, provide wind protection, and support pollinators and natural pest control.

  • In-Field Agroforestry: Integrate trees within crop- or livestock systems to enhance soil health and increase productivity.

  • Woodland Pastures: Combine trees and grazing to regenerate soil and support diverse production systems.

Nuts & Berries specializes in agroforestry and collaborates closely with leading experts in water retention, holistic grazing and other important fields of regeneration.

Agroforestry is one of the three core pillars of the Farms of the Future.

We offer a holistic design approach that integrates these systems from the beginning to create a coherent, whole-farm design.

Silvopasture and its Benefits

“Silvopasture is an agroforestry practice that integrates tree, livestock, and forage management on the same piece of land to diversify production, increase animal wellbeing, and enhance ecosystem services”.

  • Enhance forage production during shoulder seasons, mid-summer and times of drought as a result of reduced- wind exposure and evaporation.

  • Increase animal health, wellbeing and yields through shade, wind protection and nutritional value of diverse leaf-fodder, fruits and nuts.

  • Diversification of farm income and future proof investments through timber, fruits, nuts and/or biomass yields.

  • Higher soil carbon storage and nutrient cycling, which reduces leaching of phosphate and nitrate, lowering input costs.

  • Higher water infiltration rate, better drought resistance.

Benefits of Silvopasture infographic (Smith et al., 2022)

“Silvopasture retention was also found to be high across studies, with 88% of producers indicating they would continue the practice into the future”.
